Mustang Nepal
Mustang lies in the altitude of 3,840 meter in the North-West part of Nepal.This beautiful land is differentiated into two parts ie. Upper mustang and lower mustang. Upper mustang is mostly popular for adventurous trekking and lower mustang is famous for natural scenery.
Mustang was once an independent kingdom, although closely tied by language and culture to Tibet. From the 15th century to the 17th century, its strategic location granted Mustang control over the trade between the Himalayas and India. At the end of the 18th century the kingdom was annexed by Nepal and became a dependency of the Kingdom of Nepal since 1795
Being surrounded by the snow capped mountains Mustang receives the snow falls frequently and mostly in the winter season. Visitors can enjoy the snowfall and snow games in mustang during this time.
Foreign visitors have been allowed to the region since 1992, but tourism to Upper Mustang is regulated due to its proximity to sensitive Tibetan border. Life in Mustang is full of hardships but the beauty of the natural landscape is what draws tourists from all over the world to this land.
Foreigners need to obtain a special permit to enter Upper Mustang , costing US$50 per day per person.
The origin of Kaligandaki River is in the Mustang district. Kaligandaki River makes the second deepest gorge of the country.
Mustang is rich in Buddhist culture, similar to the area of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It is an alternate way to experience the Tibetan culture .
To go there, you need to reach Pokhara by flight from Kathmandu, or by bus in a long way through the Prithvi Highway (By tourist bus 6 to 8 hours journey, it costs no more than 6$). Then you can go to Jomsom by jeep or Pokhara to jomsom by flight .By flight only 20min it will cost more less 100 USD for Foreigners or walking for 3 days. Jomsom is the starting point to explore The Beautiful Mustang.
The terrain is moderate comparatively with another route. Walking track is well marked, so you don’t have to suffer. Highest point that trekkers reach during upper mustang trekking is Marang la 4230 meters above sea level.
There is a low amount of oxygen and low air pressure in the atmosphere. In this way most of the travelers become tired after completing the trek. Gorgeous landscapes, Tibetan art, culture, lifestyle of mountain people of the Himalayas make easy to forget tired and stress.
No worry, regular upper mustang trek can easily go up by simple physical efforts. Trekkers have to walk 5 to 6 hours a day to reach Upper Mustang. It takes 12 to 15 days to complete. Tea houses offer good food and accommodation facilities in different village along the way. We advise you to do daily physical exercise, yoga and other cardio vascular training before going to trek. Training and preparation make your trip easy, comfortable and enjoyable.
