The Himalayan Zoological Park Gangtok, Sikkim
The Himalayan Zoological Park is certainly a place for wildlife lovers in Sikkim Established in 1991, Himalayan Zoological Park is the first park of its kind in the North-Eastern part of India .At an altitude of 5,840ft , the Zoological Park also tenders a splendid view of mount Kanchenjunga
Can easily reach Himalayan Zoological Park by taking shearing taxis from Gangtok located at a distance of 6 km from Gangtok City .
It is a wonderful parkland that spans across a vast 230 hectares forested land . The area is very large and the animals are kept in open enclosures, you may not always be able to see them.need to be patient and wait until they come out .
Animals available in the Zoo includes Red Pandas, Himalayan Black Bears, Snow Leopards, Clouded Leopard, Common Leopard, Leopard Cat, Tibetan Wolfs, Himalayan Palm Civets, Large Indian Civets, Gorals, Barking Deer, Yaks, Porcupine etc .
You can also see different types of birds here like Golden Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Lady Amherst Pheasant, Kalij, Satyr Tragopan etc.
